A former Berkeley High student expelled for firing a gun in a school bathroom March 22 was back on campus Monday around noon, Berkeley police said.
Berkeley High security officers spotted the 17-year-old boy on the Martin Luther King Jr. Way side of the campus around noon and called police about 15 minutes later.
At least three Berkeley police officers arrived on the scene, but the boy was gone by then. Berkeley schools spokesman Mark Coplan confirmed the incident and said the boy was asked to leave, which he said is normal procedure.
The Berkeley school board April 13 will hear a series of proposals by Berkeley schools administrators to cut down on the number of guns being brought on campus at its 7:30 p.m. meeting in the school board chambers at 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
