A 24-year-old Berkeley woman wanted on suspicion of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon was arrested Friday after police said she smashed two police cars, attempted to drive head-on into a third, smashed into an apartment building and drove into a fence.
Vanessa Williams was booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of 10 violations, including assault with a deadly weapon, hit and run, resisting arrest and violating probation. Police are still investigating a suspected March 18 robbery and assault in a grocery store that is linked to Williams.
The drama started Friday when officers said they spotted the Honda Passport she was driving in the 1500 block of Stuart Street and tried to pull it over.
Police said Williams instead drove a couple of blocks and pulled into a driveway, but she wouldn't get out of the car or stop revving the engine. She then threw the car into reverse and hit a police car, pulled forward, reversed again and hit the side of an apartment building, officers said. She continued backward, hit the apartment building again and hit the police car a second time, police said.
She then drove over a lawn and hit a second police car, "making it inoperable" police said. Driving east on Stuart Street, "she then aimed her vehicle" at another police car, nearly crashing head-on, police said.
On California Street, police say Williams pulled into a second driveway, crashed through a fence and tried to run away. She was arrested after a brief struggle, police said.
