No one deserves to have their property taken from them, even if they are careless, but the police presence in a school is not about protecting student property, as much as it is about protecting student safety. There is an enormous difference between theft of property and robbery from a person that involves threat of force or force. The school is not obligated to report theft to the police and the police are not obligated to disrupt classes to conduct investigations regarding theft of property. The disruptions might not be fair to the many students who are not responsible for the theft. Interests have to be balanced.

Remember that your right to be safe at school is one that you have to stand up for and part of standing up is being a good witness to what is going on. Sounds like YOU are a good kid and doing just that. At least two were stolen this week. Students are becoming careless with them and are NOT paying attention to their surroundings! Thankfully we've gotten rid of Ofc. Mitch Collins but only gotten a Officer that's even worse in OCI:Ofc. E. Wilson. Don't rely on him when reporting a theft. Your case won't go anywhere.Aden C.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7349888307229135005.post-55408575438392164522011-09-14T12:36:24.721-07:002011-09-14T12:36:24.721-07:00The High School doesn't want to lose one stude...The High School doesn't want to lose one student because that is Federal and State bounty dollars. Attendance , absences are given a dollar amount. The District loses precious cash if they throw a crook from Berkeley High in jail-so of course they are turning the other cheek.
And of course, the money goes to their ridiculous pension plans in the end.
